At the Choral Society performance last night there were eighty in the band and chorus. Seven hundred persons were present including the judges of the Appeal
A grand banquet was given at the theatre last night to the Superintendent and Mr Imnny. About three hundred persons were present. Mr Travers occupied the chair. The gallery was filled with ladies. The dinner was given solely with political meaning, as a mark of approbation of the Executive, •and as approval of the Opposition. The Superintendent made a long speech. He contrasted the position of the province when he took office with its present condition, and claimed to have lessened the provincial debt during his term of office about £54,000, while at the same time be had spent £90,000 on public works. He referred to the fact that the province then could not borrow under any circumstances scarcely, but could now get advances from the Bank merely on the public credit of the province. The Helen Denny's passengers were landed all in good health. Amongst them are twenty-two coal-miners for Otago.
