THE MAHURANGI ELECTION.
The following correspondence has been handed us for publication :—
H. H. Lusk, Esq. Sir, —As there is to be a contest between Mr W. P. Moat and Mr H. Palmer for th« Warkworth seat in the Provincial Council, I have to request that you will inform me if during your candidature for the Superintendency on your vist to Mahurangi Mr Palmer pledged himself to support you, and use his influence on your behalf? as it is a well-known fact that after Mr Sheehan's return from Wellington Mr Palmer turned round and exerted himself on Mr Williamson's behalf. As I understood from Mr Palmer, who is Mr Sheehan's political agent here, that Mr Sheehan was friendly to your interest, I Avas surprised at such conduct, and I ask a public reply as I cannot think that Mr Williamson Avould tolerate such proceedings in his supporters.—l am, &c, J. M. Murray. Mahurangi, November 20, 1573. [reply.] J. M. Murray, Esq., Matakana. My dear Sir, —In reply to your inquiry respecting Mr Palmer's position in relation to myselfin the late Superintendency contest I may state that I am Avholly unaware of what part that gentleman took in the election, but he certainly professed to be ever strongly in my favourthroughout the contest.—l am, yours tru 1- y( Hugh H. Lur' Auckland, 22nd November, 1873. r®Wj
