DEPUTATION.
This day at half-past twelve His Honor the Superintendent, John Williamson, Esq., was waited on by a deputation consisting of Messrs P. Hall, H. J. Hawkins, and G. M. Reed, with reference to a subsidy for a steam ferry service between Stokes' Point and Auckland. The deputation was courteously received. Mr Reed explained the objects, drawing His Honor's attention to the fact that asubsidy of two hundred pounds per annum had been voted two years in succession by the Provincial Council for this purpose, but had not been taken up i that now the Steam Ferry Company would be prepared to take up the service if a similar subsidy were granted. The deputation showed the advantages likely to arise to the districts North of Stokes' Point from the establishment ofthis service, expressing abelief that the trade developed would soon be such that the subsidy would not be necessary. His Honor expressed his cordial sympathy with the movement for facilitating the menns of access to the city from those districts, and said that he would be happy to grant the amount of subsidy for the remainder of the financial year proportionately to the sum voted.by the Council, With reference to a subsidy for
