THE PROVINCIAL ELECTION,
GRAHAMSTOWN,
This day. Thesuccessfal candidates in the Provincial Council celebrate their victory by a dinner to-night. The battle was fought on the Education and Police questions. The Catholic party put up three candidates, O'Hare, Mitchell, and Hopcraft. The other side ran a ticket of four, who were pleeged to secular education, and keeping the police under the present system. The latter ticket was carried by!a crushing majority, and has given universal satisfaction except to the defeated candidates, some of whom have scarcely been seen since. Last night's Star never mentioned the election in any shape or form because one of its supporters was ignominiously defeated.
Some surprise was expressed that you have not prominently noticed the triumph of law and order at the Thames. The Advertiser has a mild crow over its victory.
