In the All Comers Rifle Match Chapman, Stone, and Matthews made each 18 points at 200 yards. The top score was 19, made by Sydney.
At five hundred yards Partington and Stone -and Alderton made each. 17 ; top scores, Melbourne IS.
At the 600 yards match the top score was Melbourne, 17 ; Skinner made 10 ; Goldie and' Scott 15 each. The totq^ scores were :— Down (Melbourne) ... ... 48 Foy (New Zealand) 48 Goldie (New Zealand) 45 Macready ... ... ... 45 Alderton 43 November 15. Arrived : Lady. Franklyn, from Auckland; Julia, from New Zealand. November IG. Banks have increased the interest on fixed deposits by half per cent. The new rates are 3£ per cent for six months, and 4 per cent for twelve. Interest on over draft is increased to 9 per cent. There is no alteration in discount rates. Crops promise well. The import markets are dull; country flour in parcels, £1310s ; prime wheat, 5s to 6a ; oata in active demand j common, in large parcels, 4s 4d ; sugars, commoner sorts, declined; teas moving slowly. Sales— Tasmanian hops, Is per lb. The Small-hore Trophy between Sydney and New Zealand is to be fired on the 17th. The English team won the Challenge Cup, the Scotch next.
A charge of bribery in the Law Courts against S. S. Smith, member for Richmond (damages £500), was given against him. The Presbyterian Assembly had a violent debate on the question of marriage with deceased wifes' sisters. A disruption seems imminent.
Governor Robinson left to-day for Sydney. Miss Hattie Sheppard, actress, has been married to Mr Hallam, singer. The Legislative Council threatens to impede the prorogation fixed for the 18th.
