r The s.s. Ladybird, Captain Andrews, arrived in Onehunga .at 5.30 a.m. this morning. She left Port Chalmers at 4.30 p.m. on the 13th; arrived at Lyttelton at 1.30 p.m. on the 14th; sailed again at 8.30 p.m. same night; arrived at Wellington at 2 p.m. on the 15th ; sailed at midnight; arrived at Picton at G a.m. on the lGth ;, sailed at 8.30 a.m. same morning ; arrived at Nelson at G p^m. same day ; sailed at 5.30 p.m. on the 17th; arrived at Taranaki at 5.30 a.m. ; sailed at 5 p.m, same day, and arrived here af above. Experienced variable weather throughout the passage. Passengers :—Mr and Mrs Tait, Mrs Stanton and two children, Miss Gardner; Messrs Cook,' Hackword, Merriman. Benjamin, Parker, Davidson, Howard (2), Caliis, Bonetis. Steerage :Mr Davis, Mr Brooks.
The Albion left Newcastle on the 3rd, and had strong JN. and N.E. wind, with a good deal of dirty weather all the passage. On the 13th passed the Hero 250 miles West of the Kings. Sighted the Kings on Saturday, but at 4 p.m. had strong S.W. gale, and very Ijad weather on the coast. Saw a brig off Doubtless Bay, standing to the West. The Clematis was to leave Newcastle about tho 6th instant for this port. The following account of a race between the steamers Ladybird and Paterson appealed in the Wellington Post of November 11th :—" Yesterday's race from this port to -Lyttelton between the p.s. Paterson and the s.s. Ladybird has resulted greatly in favor of the Irtter. The Paterson sailed at half-past nine, and the Ladybird at ten o'clock yesterday This morning they entered Lyttelton harbour in.reversed order, and with thrice the intervening time between, the Ladybird graving at five a.m., and the Paterson at 6.30. In other words, the Ladybird left half an hour after the Paterson, and arrived an hour and a half before her, making the run in 19 hours, whereas that of the rival boat occupied 21, the former thus winning by two hours.. Both steamers had a head wind, which occasioned the rather long passage. The N.Z.S.S. Co. are highly jubilant over the victory of their boat, and exhibited during to-day a placard in front of their offices announcing the fact." Aratapu.—Sailed : Dunedin, on the 11th of November, with 52,G15 feet of timber for Dunedin.
