Are solution was vW> put forward by the Conse/ vatives to prolong the tenure of office for Marshal McMahon. It was proposed that he should hold the position of President of the Repub 1;o for a further pevlcd of tea years. This motion was supported by the Ministers, who declared the matter to be one of great urgency, but by a large majority the imperialists and Republics resolutions were both rejected.
