COMMERCIAL.
There was but a short supply of fowls in the market to-day, but sufficient for the demand. Mr R. Arthur sold fowls from Is 4d to 2s Gd ; ducks, Is Gd to 2s Id ; turkeys, 3s 3d to 4s 9d ; and geese, 2s Gd to 3s 9d. The market generally had a livelier appearance than last week. We noticed a large supply of hams, bacon, and country butter at Mr Fenton's Central store. Mr Smith had a good show of vegetables- of most kinds, fine new potatoes (kidney) Id ; white turnips, 2d ; and a large assortment of cauliflowers^ rhubarb, and lettuce at equally low prices. Among fruit we noticed a quantity of fine native lemons .at Is per dozen, also at the several fruit stalls newly imported bananas at Gd per lb. Tho butchers had a good show of meat at moderato prices.
