A NEW CONTRIVANCE FOR FIRE ENGINE HORSES.
The Rochester Democrat says that by a contrivance of the engineer, Seneca Bobbs, of steam engine No. 2, of that city, a saving of about throe minutes is accomplished in the hitching of the horses to the engine and Jiose cart in ca3a of a fira alarm. A cord from the sleeping room leads down into the stable, and is attached by a spring to a movable door in front of the stall, the hay riok and out bin being at the side. In case of a fire alarm the cord is pulled, the stable door opens and the horaea rush out and take ther place*, tho engine horssa on each side of the pale, and the hose oart horse in his position. It is a race between the mon and those intelligent animals to see who can get to the poat of duty first. The horses generally win.
