Evening Star Office, ~ „ , Thursday afternoon. Messrs. Cochrane and Son submitted to public competition to-day (by -order of the mortgagee) the stock-in-trade, goodwill, and lease of premises of Mr. B. N. Manley. The bidding only came up to £370 The property was withdrawn at £420. Mr. G. Binney sold to-day, at his Exchange Rooms a consignment of fruit, ex City of Adelaide, which realised the following:—Apples, lid. to 2fd per pound ; pears, 2d. per pound ; oranges. 13s. 6d. per case ; grapes, 2id. to k ßd. per pound: passion fruit 4s. Gd.fper case. '
At Mr. Sibbin's auction mart, to-day, some hundreds of.cases of fruit were disposed of at the following prices :—Apples, 2jd. to 3d. per pound; pears, 2Jd. to 4d. per pound ; peaches, 2s. 9d. per case; pine apples ; 3s. 9d. to 4s. per dozen ; grapes, 7Ad to Bd. per pound ; oranges, 12s. per case. Mr. E. Arthur held an auction sale of fruit to-day, at his auction mart. The attendance was good, and bidding brisk. The following are quotations:— Grapes, 2d. to 9d. per pound ; pears, l|d. to 3d. per pound: pine apples, 3s. Od. to 3s. 9d. per dozen; apples, 2Jd. to 3d. per pound. Also sold yesterdayCanterbury bacon, 7£d. to B|d. per pound; ditto hams, Sd. to 9d. per pound ; oatmeal, £15 per ton. Mr. S. Jones held a clearing-out sale of groceries, kerosine, &c. The attendance was fair. No quotations.
