THE VOLUNTEER CHRONICLE.
We have much pleasure in giving publicity to the following testimony to the worth of an old, efficient, and much esteemed "Volunteer officer: — Militia and Volunteer Office, Auckland, 27th January, 1872. Sir,—l beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 25th inst., tending the resignation of your commission, which will be transmitted to Wellington for the approval of his Excellency the Governor. In the meantime would you be good enough to direct your company to proceed to the election of your successor, under clause 13, of the Volunteer Act, 1865, and I trust that in thus making its selection it will succeed in obtaining a commander as zealous, efficient, and as attentive and careful of the interests of his men as you have ever proved to be throughout your long and honorable service in the Volunteer force. I have the honor to be, sir, Vl Your most obedient serv£ .^i War. Gordon, 'jotianft Commanding Auckland st- Viet. o** g Captain Ho well, I Commanding No 1 Royal CoyA.E. V. Auckland. The Naval Volunteers, No 1 and 2 Companies, with their Cadets, were inspected by Colonel Harrington last evening. They passed muster very well, but were advised to join amicably together and form one efficient company. The Cadets' evolutions drew forth the warmest econium? from the Colonel.
The Auckland Troop of Cavalry Volunteers are so dissatisfied with the censorious remarks of Colonel Harington at the annual inspection that there is some talk among them of all resigning in a body. It is rumored that they will attend the review on Saturday in civilian's dress, and then and there deliver up their arms.
