A WARNING TO MINERS.
To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sir, —I note in your issue of yesterday the report of an alluvial gold discover}' between Mercury Bay and Whanganiata, East Coast. I happen to know something about it. It is adjoining my place at Tairua, and I would inform all your reader there is nothing in it to warrant a rush at present. . We have been aware for some time, I myself have found the colour there, 4Ki on several occasions it was in quartz, and requires great outlay even to prospect. Some, no doubt, will have a lively recollection of the " Clippem rush," three or four years ago. However, if parties will not heed this caution, they must go prepared to encounter a rough, country, where few stores exist, no work to be found, and have plenty of money in their pockets to pay expenses. And, weigh this well, should they hit upon a Caledonia, must not forget it is outside the boundary of the goldfield, on native land like Ohinemuri, and cannot get protection. Yours faithfully, Geo. S_ Graham. January 26, 1872.
