THE WATER SUPPLY.
To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sir, —I observethatthecontractfor sinking the well at corner of Lower Barrack street was let at 10s per foot. It seems strange that men of business should shut their eyes to the fact that it is impossible for any man to sink the well for the money, and the City Council will find this out to their cost.
The Golden Crown Brewery have a well lately sunk by me and would supply the city with water without going to the expense of sinking any other well in the neighbourhood. If however, the city require a well of their own, I am prepared to sink one for them that will give an abundant supply of water, and I will guarantee to complete the job in five days at the price I have tendered for. I am, &c, Abel Fletcher.
