COURT OF PETTY SESSIONS.
THIS DAY,
Present : Joseph May, Esq., J.P, (Chairman) ; and Messrs H. H. Turton, and and Thomas Ritchie, Esqs., Justices.
DBTJNKENNESS. Two drunkards were mulct in the usual amounts.
CABLESS DBIYING,
The following persons were fined for allowing theirvehicles remain unattended, without having a chain passed through the near wheel, so as to prevent its rotation : — W. Dickenson, 6s and costs ; W. Kemp, 5s and costs ; E. Plumley, 5s and costs; T. Wallers, 4s and costs; T. Foley, 5s and costs. ASSAULT. Joseph Dunwoodie, summoned by Mary Harrison for assaulting her, pleaded not guilty. The complainant bore marks of great violence on the face, and one of her eyes was in a state of ecchymosis, A quarrel, it appears, had arisen about a goat, and defendant violently thrust the complainant out of the gate, tearing her clothes, and seizing the rope she was carrying. Not content with this, he struck her on the eye with his clenched fist.
A great deal of evidence was taken, and deiendant was fined five shillings, with £1 6s. 6d. costs, or in default 48 hours' imprisonment.
Mdlle. Schneider, m Paris, has lately been presented by an unknown gentleman (who ii said to be and Englishman) with a magnificent gold and diamond comb, worth 200000 franci (£BOOO sterling.
