TEE VOLUNTEER CHRONICLE.
A number of the Naval Cadets, No 1 Company, went on board H.M.P. Blanche the other evening, when they were kindly entertained, and were informed by the officer in charge that he would be glad to see them on board on Sunday in accordance with their wishes. The lads had been practising in a boat under the command of Lieutenant Chapman. It has been suggested, and the proposal appears a a^aAana . that if the ftesratta Committee could contrive to set apart a prize to be competed for by these lads, it would have an excellent effect and would stimulate them to further exertions.
It is r 'much to the credit of the Grammar School Cadets, that although this 18 holiday time, a good number of them assembled yesterday morning in the Albert Barrack Square for drill. They were furnished with five rounds of ammunition each, and were put through, a number of light infantry movements, which they executed very creditably. There was a strong muster of No 2 Company A.N.V. the night before last at Fort Britomart, under the command of Captain Johnstone. The men went through extension and skirmishing drill in a very satisfactory manner. The Cadets attached to this section of our Volunteers, assembled in force under the immediate supervision of Captain Andrew. This latter section of the Navals is rapidly increasing in numbers, and appears to be a favorite with the youth of Auckland, The Auckland Scottish Volunteers assembled strongly last evening on parade under the command of Major Taylor. The Hobson Company A.R.V. will meet for drill this evening at 6 o'clock, in the Albert Barracks:
The monthly inspection of the Auckland Rifle Brigade and Cadets, will take place on Friday next, and the annual inspection will be made on the 2nd prox.
