ROWING CLUB RULES
To the Editor of the Evening Stab. Sib, — The Secretary of the Auckland Bowing Club wants to know how I became possessed of the idea that the Club had made a resolution, to the effect that amateurs should be considered to be those who do not earn their living by boatbuilding —or something to that effect. No doubt it appears that I "jumped at a conclusion," when I accepted the Herald's report of the meeting on the 10th instant as being a full and correct one of the proceedings, But I certainly think that anyone reading that report, cannot fail to perceive that if I hare not copied the words, I have certainly extracted the sense.
fr No one can read it without coming to the conclusion that the club allow hardfisted mechanics to enter as amateurs and contend with soft-handed quill-drivers, whom every one of moderate intelligence will see ought to be arranged in a different class. If the club has not yet defined who are to be considered " amateurs" and who " professionals," it is high time they did so, and as the originator of the club, and a permanent honorary member as so constituted by special resolution, I recommend them to attend to this if they desire to achieve the success a movement of the kind deserves. I am, &c, The Old Oaesman.
