AMATEUR OARSMEN.

To the Editor of the Evexing Stae. Sib,—ln reply to "The Old Oarsmen," of last evening's issue, permit me to thank him for his very lucid ideas in regard to the word amateurs, with reference to this club. He says " I see that one of the byelawa of the Auckland Kowing Club defines ' amateurs' as being those who do not obtain their means of living by boatbuilding," or, this is the point, something to that effect. May I ask " Old Orsman where he derived this information from, as it is certainly new 3to me. To keep " Old Oarsman" better posted up in the rules, &c, of this club, I have much pleasure in informing him, that no such, byelaw exists.

Yours, &c, T. H. Fletcheb, Hon Secretary, A.X.C.
