BOAT HIRING TO CHILDREN
r--^ To the Editor of the Evening Stak. diH, —My attention having been called to an article in your issue of Saturday, in which my name is freely mentioned, allow me to say you have been misled ; and the persons wh supplied the information know well they were " bearing false witness against their neighbor," and I call upon them (I suppose the men you have named) for proof, or an acknowledgment of their baseness. I have, &c., J. W. Care.

[Our correspondent should be precise. He should tell us wherein we were misled. Does lie deny the charge ? Dogs ho say that he did not lend a boat to six little children ? Does he say that he did not receive a shilling from them in payment ? Does he say that the children did not drift out into the bay ? Does he say that a person didnotswimoffand rescue them from imminent death P If he does so, then let him call on us for proof, and the three parents of the children whose lives he jeopardised, Messrs Thorogood, ii'vans and Eyre will confront him. Mr Canneed not think by this vague parrying to better the case ; and unless he is prepared to disprove the statements he had better keep silence, and let the public forget his conduct.—Ed. E. S.]
