HARBOUR BOARD.

The fortnightly meeting of the Harbour Board was held this afternoon. Present: j Messrs. Daldy (chairman), Casey, Macready, McKellar, Anderson, Niccol, Jones Copland, and Tonks. J*S minutes of the two last meetings X^a«^ cad and confirmed. ■•■'km despondence was then read. A letter from the Superintendent stating that the whole amount which had been appropriated by the Provincial Council had been either handed to the Board or expended on harbor works. Some conversation took place on this, and it seemed to be the opinion of the meeting that the Superintendent should not have used the grant of the Council for the purpose of balancing the account of the Harbour Board; It was decided however, that it was useless to take any further steps in the matter. A letter from the Honorable the Treasurer, requesting material for public works, and the luggage of immigrants should be allowed to land free of dues, was read. This was agreed to on the terms mentioned in the letter. Left Sitting.

The Cortmandel Mail thus speaketh : — " Wynyarton road metal has received its first test at the battery of the Nil Dcs perandum Gold Mining Gompany, and the quality is proved to be very satisfactory. Indeed, so much so, that did the township but possess inhabitants, the bonus obtainable for permission to construct a main sewer would yield a pretty dividend to the citizens. O, happy township !— a revenue instead of a rate—a heritor's income instead of a house tax.

We have received two contradictory letters signed " Francis Conway." We do not know which one is Frank's and which one is not< Will Frank call on us, and tell us which is his, and which is the other one. Meantime we hold over all further correspondence respecting Frank.
