A warrant has been issued for the arrest of an absconder named William Levesey, who is a defaulter as bailee to the amount of £430. He is supposed to have left in the mail.
George !1 olden, arrested at Adelaide, pleaded guilty to robbing Mr Spawn, the jeweller. Wheat has been sold up to 5s and lid ; maize is firmer; sugars are steady. There have been considerable sales of lumber. December 19. The Hon G Eolfe died yesterday of rheumatic gout; it is supposed he burst ! a blood vessel in the bruin. Mr llolfe ■was Gi years old. Flour is easier ; 1000 drums linseed oil sold at 3s 9d for raw and 4s for boiled. December. 20. Scott, convicted of receiving the jewellery stolen from the Zavistovviski tiistcrs, received a sentence of two and a half yeai s'imprisontuent. An inquest was held on the body of Mrs Gallojily, who died suddenly. The post-mortem examination showed that death was caused by external violence. The inquest is adjourned tiil Wednesday next. No change in the markets, which opened dull. A fatal accident occurred at the Corporation J3uths. Mr Christopher Walton, employed at the Registrar-General's office was drowned while bathing. About 2000 boxes fine pekoes, gunpowder, and young hyson teas were sold privately in one line at a fraction under 2s ; sugars are not so firm, as the trade is supplied ; the sale to-morrow will teat the market. Wheat is quoted at 5s Gd to 03, and very little doing. December 21. lloscnwax has been sentenced to 3j years' imprisonment. December 22. The Kifle Association prizes were presented at the Town Hall. A private telegram, dated Novcubor 24, statas that brandy is 7d higher; iron is advancing ; Victorian preserved meats sold at Gd per lb.
