Kereopa Sentenced to Death.
Great Moods at Greymouth.
Dunedin Wool Sales.
By the arrival of the s.s. Wellington we have received later Southern papers from which we take the following telegrams •— NAPIER,
December 16. The Telegraph Department has commenced to stretch a second wire along the present posts between this and Tauran^a preparatory to completing communication with Auckland. December 22. Kereopa's trial was concluded last night. At 7.15 his Honor began to sum up. He said there was no doubt about the corpus delicti, or the fact of the murder. The only question was whether Kereopa was responsible for it, and Captain Levy's evidence alone seemed sufficient to bring the guilt hpme to the prisoner. The jury retired at 8.30 p m, and after ten minutes' consultation, returned a verdict of guilty of murder. His Honor passed sentence of death, with the usual comments. The prisoner passed a sleepless night.
