THE NEWMARKET RACES.
These were held in Mr Cunningham's paddock, and were well attended. The following are the results of the several events:— • i ' A, '' Quoits : 21 yards—Stirling, Ist j Warner, 2nd. Maiden race: 100 yards—J. Whisker. Boys' Race: 440 yards—T. Lynch, Ist; A. Jones, 2nd. Protest lodged against Lynch. 300 yards' race—J. Whisker, Ist; J. Bradley, 2nd. Hop, step, and jump—J. Bradley (38ft 2in). One mile walking race —J. Mahon. 300 yards' hurdle race —Bradley, Ist; J. Whisker, 2nd.
Putting the stone -J. Brennan (26ft). One mile race—W. Cussin. Standing high leap—Bradley (4ft 2iu). ; Throwing the hammer—W. Stirling (78ft lO^in). 150 yards boys' race —H. Wiles, Ist; W. Nicol, 2nd. Horizontal Bar —R. Snodgrass, Ist; R. Barris, 2nd. Three mile race—Skellie. Refreshments were provided by Mr Cunningham, Newmarket Hotel, and he received due patronage during the day.
