NORTH SHORE.

Thousands took advantage ofyesterday's bright weather to visit the North Shore, and hundreds of others were obliged to seek places of amusement on this side of the water in consequence of the means of conveyance being inedequate to the requirements of the masses who thronged the Queen-street wharf. It seems strange that there is so little enterprise among the owners of small craft, many of which were lying idle and could have "been profitably employed in taking passengers across. The majority of those who went over the water enjoyed themselves to their heart's content, and formed themselves into picnic and family parties wnich soon spread over the many pleasant spots to be found in the Devonport district. The principal feature was a fete on a large scale by the Odd Fellows and Foresters who in the morning marched in procession down Queen street and proceeded across the harbor to the Vauxhall Gardens, where games of every description were played among the groves of cabbage-trees untilabout seven p.m--, when all returned to Auckland, where a pleasant ball at the Odd Fellows' new hall wound up a day's enjoyment.
