GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING.
To the Editor of the Evening Stab. Sib, —I will esteem it a personal favour if you will publish the enclosed correspondence for general information, that the public may see how our General Government contracts are disposed of. I called on both the Cross and Herald, requesting them to give publicity to this statement of what is a clear abuse of a public trust, and both declined to give the letter insertion. I therefore ask you to insert it in the interests of the public, knowing that your paper is not afraid to expose any abuse that may be brought before you. In accordance with public advertisement I tendered for the mail service between Auckland and Cambridge. My tender was the lowest, my securities were unquestioned, but by some subsequent influence another tenderer by going down to Wellington was enabled to get the contract over my head. This originated the following correspondence.
