SKATING RINK

The skating rink is about to be established among us, the proprietors Messrs Howell and Hazard having arrived yesterday from the Thames, where they have had a successful season, and contributed immensely to the innocent enjoyment of the Tamesians. The exercise of skating is peculiarly exhilarating and beneficial, and not only is it good for the actors, but by promoting laughter in the bystanders at the comical tumbles and awkward positions of new beginners, affords them aninnocent source of delight.and assists in preserving thir lungs in a healthy state. The falls, moreover, be it known, are generally harmless for the unfortunate posturer invariably comes down on a soft part, specially adapted for the reception of blows, and gets up laughing at his own awkwardness. Until a few years back skatiig was confined to the winter season in cold climates. Now, however, thanks to an ingenious Yankee, the healthful exercise can be enjoyed in all climes from the torrid to the frigid zone at all periods of the year, by the simple substitution of small rollers for the sliders. The motion and difficulty of keeping upright are identical with each appliance. We wish Messrs Howell and ,Hazzard every success.
