To the Editor of the Evening; Star,
Sib,—l see by the statements made in the papers, that with reference to the competition for the Mayor's enpi which was commenced on Saturday last, several protests have been made with regard to the qualification of the competitors, and I think it would be well, before the competitors meet again, if it-were decided who are, and who are not, entitled to' fire—of course it will only'li'ave reference to the twenty-one men who passed out bfafchej first stage, as they and the men who were present on Saturday, but did not make the requisite number-of points, some thirty-nine, in all, were all who paid attention to the district order, signed'by Major Gordon, _f. my memory serves me, the cup was not to be : fired for by any "Volunteer who had won an 'honorary prize of the value of £5. I thiuk there are several among the twonty-bne who have dene so. It'is also said that officers were nor-to compete', the cup being given to encourage the men only. Hoping that some one who knows will publish the conditions attached t.o y the con petition by His Wor-; sljip the Miyor. when be presented it.— L am, _c, . f A Fellow that Wants to Know You Know- ...
