James Ryan, charged with allowing two cows to wander in unenclosed land in tli City of Auckland, pleaded guilty, at _d having been previously convicted several times rff similar offences, was fined in the full pe _ a lt. of 20s. and costs for each cow. William Ghfirf was charged with leaving buildiif g material, and scaffolding on the footpath M Victoria! street without placing a light thiVeon. w* was also charged with leaving thfc material without being enclosed by a sufficien__Jb»ud ra j] To both charges he pleaded not_teit v ' Constable Wadman proved the neglectT V' the defence, Mr. Guird called Alexander Brown who, deposed that he had a contract for the carpenters' work in Victoria-street The City Surveyor had informed him that as it was a small contract he considered it necessary to erect a boardin_ Tn .-_ examination witness admitted that he wa ipso facto, the contractor for the whola work. The charges were accordingly dismissed, and a fresh information ordered t be laid against Brown. John Kirk wood was accused of causing offensive matter to run from a water-closet on his premises into the Alten Road. The Town Clerk appeared on behalf of the Corporation, and Mr. Beveridee for the defendaut. It was explained that the nuisance had been abated after notice had been given and before the information had beea laid. The case was therefore withdrawn on payment of costs by defendant. A similar conrse was pursued in regard to a like charge against Mr. F. Ireland.
Bheaoh of Bye-laws op Public Doiiaih* Act. —William House pleaded guilty of having a dog in the public Domain. Mr. Kissling on behalf of the Domain Board, pressed for a heavy penalty, as people were constantly taking dogs within the enclosure, and much harm was done to the birds, which at this period of the year were breeding. Fined 2s. 6d. and costs, which amounted to £1 7s. 6d.—Henry Cole was charged with a similar offence, and pleaded guilty. Mr. Kissling explained that this case was a more aggravated one as defendant had wilfully taken his dog in to hunt a sheep which had strayed into the enclosure, and some damage had been done to trees aud birds. Fined also 2s. 6d. and £1 7s. 6d. costs.
Bbeach oe Habboub Begulations. —The adjourned cases against Peter Matzen for neglecting to keep a light burning on the Golden isle, and for omitting to leave a person in charge, were further adjourned for a fortnight.
