THE VOLUNTEERS.
Otjb boy-defrnderg will be in a furors of j delight at the arrival, per the Taranaki, from Wellington, of *riijht cases of beautiful little rifles for their us**. They are portion of tbe lot purchased bj Mr. Voiiel in Kngland at a prico exceedingly favourable to the colony, and, placed in tho hands of our Cadets, cannot tail to inspire them with" fresh enthusiasm in the ciuse of the defence of our country. 'Ihe rifles themselves are exceedingly appropriate, and are sighted at 300 yards, huh the sword bayonets aro somewhat heavy and unwieldy" for the lads. They will be served out iv a few days, and with these instruments and the proximity of the new rifle range wc do not doubt that our youri* fellow citizens, though so recently enrolled, will give a good account oi themselves in the next Tir federal.
