POLICE COURT.—WEDNESDAY.
[Before His Worship the Mayor.]
Drunkenness—Four persons were punished in ulie usual manner.
Obscene Language.—Bridget Foley, one of the drunkards, waa further punished for using obscene language within hearing of persons in a public thoroughfare, by being sentenced to pay 20s aud oosts, or be imprisoned, for seven days witii hard labor.
Breaches of Municipal Corpobation Act. —John Richards was charged with having his horse and cart unattended, without having a chain passed through the near wheel of the cart in such inauner as to impede its rotation.—He pleaded guilty, and said he was unaware of the regulation, and could not read English.—Fined 20s and costs; —Edward McKeon, for a similar offence, was also fiued 20s and coats.—Thomas Craig, for allowing a goat to stray in a public street, was fiued 5s aud costs ; and James Martin, for a similar act of negligence in regard to a horso, mil fiued ten shillings and costs.
Fr/Kioua Ridino.—Charles Alexander was charged with riding furiously through Queenstreet ou the 14th instaut.—Defendant said his horse hud bolted with him, and* he was unable to hold it in.—Eroni the evidence of Coiiitiible Driver,, it appeared that Mr. Alexander seemed to be endeavouring to restrain the animal. —The case was therefore dismissed.
