CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor of the Evening Stir,
Sib, —Your issue of the 30th contains paragraphs condemning the law as it now stands as regards dealing with the natives, instancing Craig's wrongs as a motire for the Government to interfere. Those paragraphs and the opinion of the jury condemning; the law should elicit the approval of every rightthinking man in the province of Auckland. I am sorry to say I hare almost, dropped into trouble—almost similar to Craig's, though not so extensive. I arrived in Auckland about the month of February. I liked the climate, made a purchase of a block of land, which had passed through the Native Lands Court in November last, paid for it, got the deeds drawn up, interpreted, witnessed, and signed by the Government interpreter, but found I could not get them registered, in consequence of an objection being laid by a designing Maori, and, it is reported, backed by a European. Now, sir, lam kept here for ten months, waiting to see the case over j and all through what is termed native land laws, handled by designing Maoris and unscrupulous Europeans. It is very vexatious, and such proceedings will prevent honest men coming from, other provinces to speculate here, lest they be only purchasing to themselves ruin and trouble. There is redress wanted, and a reform of the law. It is no light matter, and the Government ought to see to it once. For my part. I am disgusted with their intrigues and trickery, and if I had my money out of Auckland, I should freely bid it and your Native Land Laws good-bye, for ever.—l
