RETUEX OF MR. TONKS

F.N T accordance with announcement, the election of a member of the Provincial Council fov Parnell in place of the late Dr. Stratford was held this day, at noon, in the Parnell Mall. Colonel iialncaris, Heturning Officer, having opened proceedings, Mr. Yon der Kcyde, in very eulogistic terms, proposed Mr. .Benjamin Tonks. Mr. W. H. Kis.sling seconded the nomination, and no other candidate ofl'ering, the -Ueturniiig Officer declared Mr. Tonks unanimously elected. Mr. L'onks returned thanks ior the unsolicited honor conferred on him, and for the electors not having asked him to commit himself to pledge or party. The usual thanks to the tie.turniag Officer closed the proceedings.
