Thh anniversary soiree m connection with the above place of worship was held on Tuesday evening, and was celebrated by a tea and public meeting. As usual the soiree.Ka s largely attended. " In presenting their fifth annual r_{jjjit, tfe t tru-teesof this church desire to record their gm. titude to Almighty God for His goodness during another year. Notwithstanding the peculiar difficulties; under which they labor, the put I year has been one of progress. Thereks! ''■ been an encouraging, increase in tbe number • of worshippers. In the congregational sing. t ing_they. have- witnessed a marked -improve, then., Owing to the efforts of an efficient choir for whose services, «° kindly rendered, the trustees are under deep obligations; whilst the ministi^tdpnt' of -the] pulpit h^ive been 'not in word" only, " but also'in power and- inrthe ; Holy' Ghost.'; T-rey je rMi lion of side galleries has greatly improved the appearance and also the acoustic properties of the church. This work was undertaken by a member of the congregation (who is not willing that his name should-transpire)- and completed without cost to the tfasfc. To titf, to those who so gave the timber, to another who varnished' the gallery, and to Mr. Bartley, who, for a merely. o-tminal sum, spkrtfd no trouble in darrying lout his contract in a workmanlike manner, the'truite|l beg to return their warmest thanks. The trustees are also glad to report that they have been able to,»reduce their .debt to the an^ount of £470/ This has been;i effected, partly ».by the sale of Hobson-street chapel for £400, and partly by several liberal doriationi whicj* kind friends have forwarded, :in sdtn9 csM. unsolicited. By borrowing £700 at I>ptf. cent, interest, instead ,of the. 10 per .cpnt. which they were paying for it as ah pyercVafti on the bank, they have also reduced ..heir current expenditure. Yet they hjipe, that this aflSt:, versary will be signalised by a Btillfurtfa»r : reduction of the debt. A plan for the accomplishment of this will be laid before the'meeting, to which they hope that a liberal response will be freely and promptly given. They are.. looking hopefully forward to the daywhtt} J the heavy pressure of this debt will fa ' removed, and the care and the cost .iww required to meet their laqge expenditure will be devoted to more encouraging j and productive work in the Master's yiaeyard.: yFbr.. help towards the attainment of so desirable?, an object, they confidently rely upon the Methodist public of "Auckland."
