NONPAREIL GOLD MINING COMPANY.
A meeting^ Of shareholders of the Nonpareil Gold Mining Company was held at,>the. Metropolitan Hotel, yesterday afternoon. The meeting was well attended, tbosu present representing fully 1000 shares. Mr. Stbvii. occupied the chair, and stated that the meeting was called with the object of learning the views of the directors in reference to the rumour afloat respecting tbe amalgamation of this company with the Waitemata. He had endeavoured to find put from tftp subdegal manager in Auckland the truth of the report, aid the only reply he could obtain from Mr. Br.mie was, that if the shareholders interfered jyiflh the directors they would burn their fingers. He| also learned that Messrs. Fletcher and Urame had purchased some (1300 shares, not fori themselves,'but on account of certain of the!directors and connected! with!shis mine. ~ He did not, wish the, directors to be condemned without' being heard ; he con sider<-d they deseryed great .credit for 'fyljat they had already 'done, but was afraid'that certain pf-- tjheiii w were, j now about, to i abuse powifrai vested in ,them, by ..bringing-- about: this proposed* an.algtiiriat.ion to'tuit their own" private interests. —Mr. Brame was CalUfcll upon to explain what he might know of the mattery .but: positiVelyi declined to' make 'any explanation whatever. — Mr. Friend, .-and. several others, fully endorsed the chairman's statement. —A resolution was passed 'to' tile' following effect:—"That this -(meeting has heard, with dissatisfaction._t.be rumour of a proposal to amalgamate'tlie "Waitemata with the | Nonpareil, and begs to request the directors to afford satisfactory and full information on the subject j and, also, that they may not entertaiu any propositions without calling a meeting of shareholders."—
This resolution was carried by a Unanimous rshow of hands, and the .meeting adjourned! till Tuesday^' next, 31st instant.—MY.
