WELLINGTON.
October 16.—Arrived : Electra, ship, from London.—Dr. Carr has been fined £5 for pulling a draper's nose, for selling him a pair of gloves that did not fit him. October 12.—Ocober 12.—Mr. Vogel very briefly moved the second reading of the Government Provinces Bill. —* Messrs. Curtis, Gillies, and Shepherd (Otago) opposed the bill on vrrious grounds, chiefly that it wus vague and incomplete. Mr. Gisbcrne supported, aud Mr. Swanson opposed the measure.—Mr. O'Rorke moved that tho bill be read a second time that day six months.—Mr. Reid seconded the amendment.
The Fire at Invercaroill. —As we anticipated, tho amount of losses sustained by tho Insurance Otlices in this fire was greatly exaggerated in the first telegram received. We now learn that £21,000, tlie sura originally stated, has been reduced to £8,800, the various offices being affected as follows: —Liverpool, London, and Globe, £1350; Northern, £6050; Roval, £-100; Victorian, £600 . Alliance, ..400.
