POLICE COURT.-Wednesday. [Before Thomas Beckham, Esq., E.M.] Drunkenness. —Three persons were punished in the usual manner for this offence.

Assault.—John W. Smith was charged with violently assaulting Captain Parquhar on board the Koyal Alfred, on the 17th in 3 t,-__! Mr. Joy appeared for defendant, and urged that the offence was only committed while defendant was under the influence of liquor • also, that the assault was a trivial one, and prosecutor wa3 unwilling to pr.s^for a heavy penaity.—Defendant received a . , /re caution and was ordered to pay a fine<%f 40 8- an j costs, or be imprisoned fourteen days. Breaches op Municipal Cobpobatioi. Mr. Joy appeared on behalf of the prisoner, and Inspector Brobam conducted tie prosecution.— Henry; Jackson deposed-that prisoner was in his employ while carrying on business as a burcher1 on the new worth' Road. Up to the 9th instant his-duties were to take out meat, take .oyders, and.receive money..: On tho 9th he was sent to the Whau in tkeusual course of his work.
