MANUKAU COAL FIELD.
We have been favoured with a view of a | specimen of the coal recently found at uluddy Creek, and. considering that it is taken horn the surface, it appears to indicate the presence of what yet may be an important element 0^ wealth to the shores of the Manukau, and to the district generally. Mr. A.Fletcher, whw for half a century has been ene^ed in coal raining, is sanguine of a Jsatisfaetory result. The site of tlie supposed coalfield is between the tlie Great and Little .Muddy Creeks, and fronting the beach, and as there is deep water close alongside, one of the first requisites to a successful coalfield is afforded. There is also adjoining ironstone in quantity, and fireclay, so that it is impossible to overestimate the value of the results that may arise from the discovery of a coalfield in the locality. The efforts of Captain Symonds are deserving of the warmest support on public grounds, and we trust that the project of sinking a shaft will be liberally responded to by the public
