ONEHUNGA.

The attention of the Provincial Government has been reneatedly called to the necessity for putting a light on the Onehunga Wharf. The unfortunate man Ferguson, who fell over the wharf at the stairs the other night, and whose body has not yet been found, would most probably not have mot with the accident had there been a proper light. Some time since a coroner's jury added a rider to their verdict to the same effect, and applications have been made without effect, both from the har; our-master and captains of vessels. Last night, too, till long after dark, the mail and cargo per Nevada was being shipped on board the Wellington, and in the bustle and darkness it is only surprising no accident occurred. As there are often three or four steamers lying at tlie wharf, paying considerable dues, it is not much to ask that the Grovernment should take ordinary precautions for the security of life. The business of the Resident Magistrate's Court, at Onehunga, on Wednesday last, had to be postponed, in consequence of the indisposition of Mr. Melsopp, and two justices not being available iv this district.—[Correspon-dent.]-Herald.
