ARRIVAL OF THE OPOTIKI.
ENGAGEMENT WITH TE KOOTI. The schooner Opotiki arrived in harbour this afternoon, from Whakatane. Captain Baker reports leaving Opotiki on Tuesday .Jast. Tlie Government p.s. Luna called at Whakatane last■'week, 'and--- was detained inside the port" for x "three '■' days, with heavy gales.. She left there on Saturday last for Taurangn,;arid returned-to Ohiwa on SundayV where she "took.on-board fifty natives for Poverty Bay and left' same iiight. _'"*-. A despatch was received at Opotiki on Saturday last from Messrs. Mair and Preece," "Stating that they had encountered Te Kooti in the; .Rbtorua:. district. We have received no particulars of the skirmish,' only that Te Kboti was again allowed to escape. Major Porter was to start for the interior on Tuesday with 70 men.
