[adveetisument.] TO THE RATEPAYERS OF TH BOROUGH OF AUCKLAND. Ladii:.s and O bntle.uex, —Having been nominated by Mkssus. W. C. Wilson, 0. J. Stovr, J. Y. Stevenson, and T. 13. Hill us a CANDIDATE for a scut in the Borough Council, and several gontlemen having actively interested themselves to secure my return, I beg to express my thanks, and trust that their efforts will be crowned with success. Ah a native of the colony 1 take a deep interest in its prosperity, more especially in this province. Ah » citizen of Auckland, I am willing to do my duty, and this (if I am elected) will be my main object in the City Council. A3 " actions speak louder than words," I will leave the mutter with you, rominding you that the poll opens at 8 o'clock a.m. and closes at 4 p.m., on Thursday, the 14th ine-tant, at the Mechanics' institute—l am, &c, Kicuabd Hoßiss. EXPLANATION. To the Editor of the Evening Stab. Sir, —At a meeting of the ratepayers of the Borough Council on Saturday evening last, which I should have attended but for severe illness, Mr. X. 13. Hill kindly addressed the meeting on my behulf, but if ho stated what is reported to have been said in the papers, it has placed mo in a false position as to the " Per* missive" question, which has nothing whatever to do, that I know of, with the Borouglr Council. Sotno luontha ago, unsolicited by anyone, and from no pressure at tho time of an election, T signed the petition in favor of tho Permissive Bill. I did it because I felt that tho time had arrived when wo ought to have a very different Licensing Act or a Permissive Bill. Mr. Hill knows that I am not a teetotaller, but I consider the granting of licenses by a " packed" Bench to almost any applicant, though quite unnecessary, to be a crying evil.—l am, &0., RICHAKD HOBB3. Sib, —Mr. R. Hobbs having shown me the above letter, I urn quite content to let the ratepayers present at tho meeting referred to put their own proper interpretation upon what 1 said of Mr. Hobbs relative to the Permissivo Bill, &c. By inserting these few lines at tho foot of Mr. Hobbs' letter, you will oblige, yours, &c., . T. B. Hira. The high reputation Olson's tomato sauce has obtained as a household condiment, has brought many inferior articles into the market Tho public are therefore warned not to bo imposed upon with rubbish, but ask for Olson's genuine tomato sauce, and see that his name is on the bottle.—[Advt.]] The annual meeting of the shareholders of the Junction Gold Alining Company will be held on the 28th.
