COLONIAL INDUSTRY.
Hithbbto whenever any Masonic paraphernalia has been wanted in this city, it has been necessary to send to England for the " regulation clothing and jewels." We have been much gratified by a visit to Mr. Macready's shop in Shortland-street, where there is on view a supply of the above articles, the whole of wliich have been manufactured in Auckland for the new Lodge of "Ancient, Free, and Accepted Masons " about to be opened at the Thames under the Scotch Constitution, showing that even in this peculiar requirement we are quite able to supply ourselves without resorting to foreign lands, except it be for the materials—a want that there is no reason why in time we may not be able to supply from our own workshops. The workman's high and artistic skill displayed in the "jewels"—consisting of square and compasses, level, plumb-rulo, and all the other Masonic emblems worn by the; officers of the Lodge, in solid silver—is highly creditable to Mr. Macready, who was intrusted with the order for them ; while the ladies, cannot but admire the neatness and beauty of the aprons, sashes, and collars, which we understand were supplied from the establishment of Miss Jenkins, Pitt-street, and are really equal to any we have seen of home-make.
