Bi r tho arrival of the p.s. Nevada we have received later Southern files, from which we extract the following :
WELLINGTON.
August 29.—The Imprest Bill was read a second time.—The Coasting Trade Regulations Bill wns read a second time.—The Justices Protection Act Amendment Bill was also read a second time.—Tho Nelson Loan Bill has been passed through committee.—The Christchurch City Borrowing Bill was read a second time.—The Wellington Reclaimed Laud. Bill has been passed in committee.— The question of Mongolian Immigration was referred to a select committee.—The first reading of the Education Bill was moved by tho Hon. Mr. Pox, without explanation.— Mr. Mervyn (Otago) thought the discussion should bo postponed until the opinion of the country was obtained.—The Hon. Mr. Stafford blamed the Premier for not fully explaining the principles .of the bill.—-Mr. Thompson proposed that the second reading be taken on Thursday. It was afterwards postponed for a fortnight.—Tbo Hon. J. Hall objected, to the postponement, as did also Messrs. Mariandrew and Steward.
September 2.—Tho second reading of the Education Act was moved by Mr. Fox last night, in a speech lasting nearly two hours. The debate was adjourned till Tuesday.—Today six. petitions were presented on the Education question ; also, two on the Permissive Bill.—J ho second reading of the Arms Bill was postponed.—There was a short sitting today ; nothing important, i ■ ,7
September 3. —Mary Malonej alias Burne, who says she is from Napior, has been arrested for begging. On searching her, tho sum of £55 was found on her.
