SERIOUS- ACCIDENT.
Another catastrophe—wo can scarcely call it an accident—of a description which ha* been disgracefully frequent of late, in consequence of negligence in adjusting the landing stages of steamers, oecured this morning at about 3 o'clock. The p.s. Lalla Koolih had arrived alongside the wharf from Coromandcl, bringing, among other passengers, a man named Uharlcs Taylor, who had been working at, tho Whangapoua Saw Mills, and who, having bi'L>n for some time in ill health, had como to town with the intention of obtaining medical treatment. The plank had boon lazily heaved on shore, and before ascertaining whether it had sufficient hold of the wharf, tho passengers were allowed to attempt landing. When the unfortunate victim reached the middle of the stage, it slipped and fell with him into tho water. In his descent, he struck his head violently, and, from subsequent symptoms, would appear to have fallen with his stomach across one of the stringers. After some difficulty he wns taken out of the water by the crew, and Dr. Nicholson was sent for, who applied the necessary restoratives, and loft him apparently convalescent. At about sis o'clock, however, ha was so much worse, and was suffering such intense agony from the wound in the body, that it boeamo necessary to remove him to the Hospital, where he r.O'V lies iv a dangerous stale.
