WELLINGTON.
August 17.—There was mere routine and preparatory work done in the House to.-day. —Mr. Collins, of Nelson province, moved for a return of the names of persons who are allowed the free use of the telegraph wire, such return not to include officers of the General or Provincial Governments.—The Government opposed the motion, saying that it was equivalent to a vote of want of confidence. On a division the motion was negatived. Ayes, 25 ; noes, 30.
