CHARLESTON.
July 24.—'^here were tremendous gales and heavy rains hero during last week, doing considerable damage. A whirlwind in the Nile Valley carried the roof of a stable and three lines of clothes across the river, and uprooted several large trees. Another at Brown's Terrace uprooted a great nianv trees. —Edwin G-oodall, a miner from Otago, -was killed on Wednesday last by a full of earth iv his claim. lie was frightfully smashed. The funeral -was attended by four hundred people, and a largo subscription has boen raised for hia widow.—A bottle has been picked up on Ihe beach containing the following :—" ITolme3dale, 291h February, 1869 ; latitude, 53.14 south ; longitude, 55.1 west. Sailed from Melbourne Oth January, 1869 ; rough weather about 31st January. All woll ; weather fine ; good breeze.—BoitNf okd, passenger."
