QUEEN-STREET PAVEMENT.
With reference to the intended motion of Mr. Councillor Atkin on the subject of flagging the footpaths, we understand that it is tho intention of the mover in this matter to make the wording of the motion mote precise, so that leaseholders having but a short period of their leases to run may not chance to be saddled with the cost ot. paving. Ibis can be done by specifying, not the length of term included in the lease, but the time of occupancy yet to elapse. We learn also that probably this may be altered from five to seven years. There is some agitation being got up against Mr. Atkins motion, arising from a misapprehension; and we would repeat, for general information, that it is intended that the owners, not the occupiers, should be compelled to flag the footpath opposite their premises—those occupiers only with long lease's being regarded in the light of owners. We sincerely hope that Mr. Atkin will' be strongly supported by popular sympathy in his most sensible and business-like action with regard to our main street.
