Iho mail steamer Nevada, Captain -Ble-, then, arrived in harbour last evening, from Napier and Southern ports. She left Port; Chalmers on July 7th, 2.30 p.m.; arrived at Lyttelton July Bth, 9 a.m. ; left at 1.10 p.m., and arrived at Wellington, July 9th, 6.30 a.m.; left at 12.2 p.m., arrived-at Napier 8.30 a.m., July 10th ; left 8.30 am., July 10th, arriving in harbour 9.30 p.m. yesterday. From Wellington, experienced strong gales from W. to W.N.W. Passengers :—Mr. and Mrs. S<teele, Mr. James Adams, Mr. A. Jackson, Mrs. Harkncss, two children and infant, Mr. Janes, Mr. Adair, Mr. Taylor. The » s.Star of the South arrived at Napier on the 7th instant. She also carried 250 bales wool, purchased to order of a Californian woomn taanufactory. ■ • > '- On Thursday, the 30th Jun», the cutter Annie left Auckland for the Orewa River. After rounding Wangaparoa the wind blew - very strong from the N. W., with heavy squills^ James Conley, working on board, was standing by to let go the throat and peak halyards, when a very heavy squall coming on she carried away her staysail sheet. The thimble of the clue hit Conley in the eye when the squall was s>t its highest, and cut the pupil of the eye dean away. He, with great presence of mind, although so seriously hurt, let go the halyard in the squall, or the consequences to the* boat would have been far more serious.
