A WOMAN BURNT TO DEATH.
[FUOM THE " WELLINGTON INDEPENDENT."]
Gbeytown, July 5. It is with deep regret I have to record a fatal accident which took place at Carterton on Tuesday last. Early on that morning Mr. E. Kenible, of the Pioneer Hotel, who went to bed about 11 o'clock tho preceding evening, was awoke from a sound sleep by screams which proceeded from tho kitchen. He jumped out of bed and run to tho place from whence the cries proceeded, when he found Mrs. Kemble enveloped in flames. Ho immediately threw a blanket over her, and succeeded in putting out the fire ; but the poor woman, was so shockingly burnt that no hopes from the first wore entertained of her recovery. Medical assistance was immediatoly sent for, which unfortunately proved unavailing. She lingered until Tuesday afternoon, when she expired. An inquest was held on Wednesday, before Dr. Spratt and a respectable jury, who, aftor hearing the evidence, returned a verdict of accidental death. The deceased leaves a large and young family to mourn their loss. Tho funeral is to take place on Saturday, from Mr. G. Buck's, Taita. Much consideration is fait for Mr. Kemble on this shocking and melancholy occasion.
