ACCIDENT AT THE GOLDEN CROWN SHAFT.
On Saturday evening an accidents occurred to one of the contractors of tho G-olden Orovm mine while ascending tha shaft, in the cage, which but for tEe presence of mind and activity of the breaksman '"itiid- encihe-driver, would hare proved vory sorious, if not fatal. The contractor, Andrew McLaughlan, stepped into a loaded truck on tho cage for the purpose of ascending to the surface. By some means tho truck tipped up when the cage was raised' about a dozou feet. The capsized trujk jammed McLaughlan, but fortunately the brenkainan (Sanderson), who wus a at the collar of the shaft, noticed by the vibrution of the rope that something wa3 wrong, and had the engine stopped instantly, thus in all probability saving the man from more serious con-, sequences. The cage was then lowered to tho lauding, when it was found that, except soino severe bruises and injuries to the legs and feet, McLaughlan was safe. He was brought to the surface and conveyed^ to his own houge.— Thtmta Advertiter*
