LATEST EfiOM THE WAIKATO. A kativb chief, of the Ngatimaru tribe, arrived here yesterday, from Te Aroha, and states that messengers had arrived at Maungatauri, Waikato, from the Maori King to Te Baihi, of Ngatiraua, requesting him to agree to the laws now promulgated by the King, viz., not to sell, lease, or survey land in the Waikato district; not to allow the telegraph, or the establishment of European schools, or native,; unless with the consent of the King. Te Raihi said he would not consent to the proposals of the King, for the Hauhau party, at the time he was a firm Queen's ma», sold liind other than their own to the Europeans, and they should not now dictate to him or his people what they should. do. Eititi, of the Ngatihaua, communicated the above news to Ngatimaru at the Aroha. The Ngatimaru at this place have telegraphed to Waikato for confirmation of the above news, and should it prove to be correct they intend to proceed to the Aroha to permanently occupy it against all persons who may try to dispossess them, or interfere with tho survey of their lands, they not being inclined to agree to the proposals of the King. The law laid down by the King is said to be in force at present within his own dominions (whatever they may be), but he is not, it appears, satisfied to rule in such a limited circle, and therefore wishes the co-operation and assistance of all the Waikato tribes.— Thames Star, 3rd inst;
