SPECIAL TELEG-BAMS THIS DAT. THE CALEDONIAN—2,242 OZS. LODGED. 3 p.m. The Caledonian have lodged 2,242 ozs. of gold. — « The Otago.—There was a rather brisk inquiry for Otago shares in tho market this morning. This was due to the feet that in working towards that claim, from the No. 2 shaft of the Caledonian mine veiy encouraging indications were met with. The reef is at this place a fine body of stone with gold visible daily. The Whatt,—A 'fine sample of specimens which were out of "the mine this morning exhibited to-day. The gold is coarse and flaky. These stones were broken oat of the main tunnel of the mine. The Cube.—A nice lot of specimens were broken out of the Cure mino by this morning's shift, from No. 2 reef Golden Crown. For the last fortnight gold in small quantities has been visible in the stone broken out of the reef, and the present find shows an improvement in the quality of the stone. The Berkeley Castle.— The contractors have at length broken through the hard dyke, and are now into a better class of country. The dyke is 350 feet in width, and tho whole length to- which . the tunnel lias now reached is 420 feet. It is expected that tho Berkeley Castle reef will soon bo in hand. The Centhal Italy.—The men made a start yesterday to clear away the" landslip which recently occurred tnd blocked up tho whim and workings. Poppet head? have been erected over the ,shaft, and the l mine will be in active work n a few days again.— Advertiser.
